A Message from the Chair:

Hello Texas A&M-Kingsville Music Community,

It has begun!  Construction is finally underway for the new music building!  The official groundbreaking will be held on Tuesday, September 19 at 12:30 PM in Jones Auditorium, but construction crews are already hard at work preparing the site for the initial foundation construction.  By the way, you all are invited to the groundbreaking and we hope that many of you can attend!

The new building will be approximately 90,000 square feet which is nearly three times the size of the current building.  The building will include a 500-seat performance hall, a 100-seat recital/lecture hall, four large rehearsal halls for band, choir, orchestra, and jazz, and three chamber music/secondary methods halls.  Additionally, there will be 50 student practice rooms, 32 faculty studios/offices, 5 classrooms, computer music lab, electronic keyboard lab, recording studio, student study areas, several storage areas, an administrative office suite, and a host of other required support facilities.  The marching band will continue to be housed in its current location in the Music Annex.

To compliment the new facilities, there will be a host of new equipment including pianos, large percussion equipment, risers, chairs, and stands.  The performance hall and the lecture/recital hall will have extensive lighting, sound reinforcement, and recording capabilities.  Each rehearsal room will have its own set of equipment dedicated to that particular ensemble’s needs including in-room and remote recording capabilities.  The classrooms will each have a full complement of technology teaching tools including an integrated touch-screen system with computers, projectors, document cameras, and stereo systems.  All of the planning for this facility has been done keeping acoustical and educational considerations as the primary focus of the overall design.  It will truly be a place for learning, innovation, and artistic development in a cutting-edge environment.

We anticipate that these new facilities will allow us to expand our programs and degree offerings in the near future.  We plan to explore all of the possibilities that new facilities will afford us in musical, educational, and technological areas.  We will continue to provide our students with the best music education possible, and these new facilities will help us to take our goals and aspirations to even new heights.  It is a great time to be member of Javelina Nation!

Warmest Regards,

Paul Hageman, Chair

Texas A&M-Kingsville Music Department
