Dr. Veronica Salinas Lopez, Assistant Professor of Orchestral Studies

Dr. Veronica Salinas Lopez

Conductor and violist Dr. Veronica Salinas Lopez is currently the Assistant Professor of Strings at Texas A&M University in Kingsville and Music Director for the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra. 

She began her music studies in the Corpus Christi public schools at the age of twelve. She teaches both violin and viola and holds degrees in both disciplines. Dr. Lopez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance and a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. She completed her Doctorate in Musical Arts in Viola Performance at Texas Tech University as an AT&T Chancellor’s Fellow. 

Dr. Lopez has extensive orchestral playing experience and has played violin and viola in the Corpus Christi Symphony, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra, New Mexico Symphony, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, the Arlington Symphony, the Garland Symphony Orchestra, and Dallas Live Orchestra. Currently, she serves as Assistant Principal Viola of the Victoria Symphony.

Spending much of her time working on music education outreach for the community Dr. Lopez implemented the first ever Strings Project in Kingsville called JAVELINA Strings, where KISD students attend after school classes to learn to play in orchestra. This also serves as a training ground for her college students to gain hands-on experience in the orchestra classroom. In the past four years she has secured $95,000 in grant funding and fundraising to promote community programming and other music education outreach programs for Kingsville and the surrounding areas. 

Dr. Lopez maintains an active presence as a clinician for high school and middle school orchestras in Texas. She has also served as the Region Symphony conductor for several regions in Texas including Region 9, Region, 23, Region 14, Region 15, Region 28, and Region 29. Past conducting engagements included conducting fellowships at the Los Angeles Conducting Institute in California and with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania. This year she will perform as a Conducting Fellow at the International Conducting Institute in New York City.
