Dr. Patricia Fagan Miller, Adjunct Professor of Bassoon

Dr. Patricia Fagan Miller

Dr. Patty Fagan-Miller is adjunct instructor of bassoon at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She is an active bassoon masterclass clinician throughout the Hill Country and South Texas and maintains a private lesson studio in San Antonio. She teaches applied bassoon to majors and non majors as well as the bassoon methods course at TAMUK. She has previously taught bassoon, woodwind methods, music theory for non-majors, and music appreciation at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

As an orchestral musician, Dr. Fagan-Miller is the principal bassoonist with the Symphony of the Hills in Kerrville and has freelanced with the Lake Charles, Corpus Christi, Stockton, and Baltimore Symphonies, and can be heard on the Baltimore Symphony's recording of the Rite of Spring under Marin Alsop, currently available on iTunes. One of Dr. Fagan-Miller's areas of interest is early music performance. She is the principal baroque bassoonist for the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, and has performed with the Bach Society of Houston, Ars Lyrica Houston, the Austin Baroque Orchestra, La Follia Austin Baroque, and the Baltimore Baroque Band. She studied baroque bassoon at the Tafelmusik Summer Baroque Institute in Toronto for several summers and enjoys playing racket, dulcian, and classical bassoon as well.

Dr. Fagan-Miller received her DMA in Bassoon Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she was a student of Dr. Yoshiyuki Ishikawa, and a graduate teaching assistant for the bassoon studio. She also holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory and the University of the Pacific. She counts Phil Kolker and Dr. Don DaGrade amongst her many great teachers.
