Lance Witty , Lecturer of Music, Trumpet

Lance Witty is Lecturer of Trumpet at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. In addition to his teaching duties at TAMUK, he is a Professional Trumpet Performer and Educator in Austin, TX. Witty is currently in Doctoral Candidacy at The University of Texas at Austin, and has received both a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degree at Bowling Green State University. Witty’s Principal Trumpet instructors include Ray Sasaki and Charles Saenz, and he is a registered member of the International Trumpet Guild, as well as an Alumnus of Kappa Kappa Psi.

Mr. Witty is Instructor of Trumpet at Akins High School and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin, He also served as the trumpet TA at Bowling Green State University. He has inspired and guided aspiring trumpet players from all skill levels in Austin, Texas throughout Ohio as a performer, private instructor, guest lecturer, contest adjudicator, and field technician. Internationally, Witty has been Guest Faculty for the International Trumpet Camp in Montemorelos, Mexico in 2016. 

As a native Midwesterner, Witty has performed considerably in Ohio in many musical idioms equally as an orchestral, chamber, and commercial musician. As a performer in Austin, aside from freelance work, Witty can be heard extensively in the ensembles at UT Austin as he has held lead roles with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, New Music Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra. He has also enjoyed performances with the Butler Opera Center, Palette Brass Quintet, World Premiers with the UT Wind Ensemble and New Music Ensemble, CLUTCH and UT Trumpet Ensemble (2nd place NTC 2016).  As a proponent for new music for trumpet, Mr. Witty is excited to premier his commissioned works by Steven Serpa, Mountain Idyll for trumpet and piano (2016) and Coalescent for Solo Trumpet by Lucas Marshall Smith (2016).
