Under Plan II, the student must complete a research project and thirty-six (36)
semester hours of approved graduate courses, with twenty-one (21) to twenty-four (24)
semester hours in mathematics and twelve (12) to fifteen (15) semester hours in a
minor subject area.

In addition, the student under Plan II must pass a comprehensive examination in the
major field and minor field (if nine or more semester hours).  This examination is prepared by
the graduate coordinator who solicits suitable questions from each instructor from which the
student took a course about which he/she is to be tested.  The student is tested only over
courses that appear on the degree plan, and over certain fundamental items of undergraduate
mathematics.

If the minor is less than nine (9) semester hours, then the student is not required to take a
comprehensive exam covering the courses in the minor field.  Questions relating to undergraduate
mathematics are graded by the graduate coordinator.  Questions relating to graduate mathematics
are graded by the instructor submitting the question.  See the section titled "Graduate Comprehensive
Exam" for additional information.
