Description
Standard State: solid at 298 K
Color: Silvery White
Gadolinium was separated by Marignac in 1880 who isolated the element from Yttrium.
The element was named from the mineral from which it was found called Gadolinite.
It is also found in other minerals. At room temperature gadolinium
crystallizes a hexagonal form. The metal is relatively stable in dry air and in
moist air it tarnishes.
