Francium was discovered by Mile Marguerite of the Curie Institute of Paris. Francium is the heaviest of the known members of the alkali metals.  It occurs naturally in uranium minerals but can artificially produced by bombarding thorium with protons.  The chemicals closely  resemble that of Cesium.
