Standard State: Presumably solid at 298 K
Color: Unknown

Fermium is the eight transuranium element and was identified by Ghiorso and co-workers in 1952 from the debris left over from a thermonuclear explosion in the Pacific.  The publication of the element was withheld because of security reasons due to the thermonuclear testing. Fermium has since been identified with only a 30 minute half life.
