WAYS TO GIVECURRENT GIFTSCASH: Cash contributions from individuals are the most common way of giving to the campaign. Individuals who give by cash or check may qualify for charitable tax deductions based on their individual circumstances. APPRECIATED SECURITIES: Individuals who contribute appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds might also be eligible for charitable tax deductions and may also avoid being taxed on the capital gains from the appreciation of their securities. PERSONAL PROPERTY: If your gift of personal property, such as works of art or rare books, can be used by the University, or may be accepted by the Foundation and sold expeditiously, you may qualify for a tax deduction based on the value of the gift. REAL ESTATE: The Foundation will be glad to consider possible gifts of real estate including land, houses, or vacation homes, especially if there are no environmental concerns and may be sold soon after they are received. |
PLANNED GIFTSNot everyone may wish to or be capable of contributing to the Building on Our Traditions Campaign from their existing resources. However, they may be willing to consider a gift that will help build the future endowment for the university. These are often referred to as Planned Gifts and the Foundation will be glad to consider the following types of such gifts. BEQUESTS: An individual can make a sacrificial "gift of a lifetime" by including a provision in their will that leaves a specified amount or a percentage of their estate to the Foundation for the benefit of the University. It can be as simple as writing the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation into their will and designating the program at the university which the gift is intended to support. Just to make sure, you can complete a letter of intent telling the Foundation of your intentions. Check with us for language that you may show your attorney to include in your will so that you may make that very special “gift of a lifetime!” RETIREMENT PLANS: One of the easiest ways to make a significant gift is to name the Foundation as a beneficiary of your retirement plan. Simply contact your retirement plan administrator, sign papers to designate the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation as a beneficiary and you are done! It helps if the Foundation is aware of your efforts. Life Insurance: Often, individuals can make significant gifts beyond their lifetimes by purchasing a life insurance policy and naming the Foundation as beneficiary of that policy. You may call and see how a life insurance gift to the Foundation may benefit the University and enable you to make a significant contribution. CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIES: You can contribute $10,000 and sign an agreement with the Foundation that will result in the Foundation paying you an income stipend for life! Portions of your gift and portions of the payments may be tax deductible. When the agreement reaches maturity, the Foundation will receive the remainder of the funds generated by the gift and apply them to the program that you designated. Call for more information to see if you may qualify for our Charitable Gift Annuity program. CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS AND CHARITABLE LEAD TRUSTS: With a gift of $50,000 or more, an individual may establish a Charitable Trust that will either benefit the Foundation now for a period of years, or benefit the Foundation when the Trust reaches maturity. The Foundation will be happy to confer with individuals wishing to set up either a Charitable Lead Trust or a Charitable Remainder Trust and their financial and tax advisors. Please note: Nearly all of their current and planned charitable gifts qualify for tax deductions or capital gains avoidance. However, the circumstances may differ from individual to individual so we encourage you to confer with your professional advisors before making such decisions. We will be glad to meet with you and your financial advisors to explore ways that we can help you with your charitable decisions. All discussions are considered confidential and remain so unless you otherwise permit us to disclose them.
