Caesar Kleberg was a conservationist and naturalist pioneer whose philosophies are carried on in the internationally acclaimed research institute named in his honor.

Nelda C. Garcia left a portion of her estate to create the Hida Garcia Scholarship endowment.

Students : Students benefit from scholarship endowments that have been established by individuals, corporations and foundations. The following is a partial list of the scholarship endowments that are maintained by the Foundation.

· Walter Sells Honors Scholarships for business majors, named after longtime Kingsville businessman Walter Sells who had a deep appreciation for higher education.

· Jose Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship for minority students.

· The Athletic Memorial Scholarship endowment which includes donations in memory of legendary Javelina football coach Gil Steinke, as well as coaches Dick Hitchens and A. R. Bradshaw.

· Charles Guion Scholarship fund which was established by Distinguished Alumnus Dr. L.E. Ramey to recognize the person who helped him complete his college education.

· The Fred and Virginia McIntire Endowed Scholarship assists student athletes and was established by an outright gift from Mrs. McIntire in 1999 and later increased to more than $1 million through her estate.

· Jake Russell Memorial Scholarship fund

· Jacque and Edwin DeMouche Scholarship for engineering students. DeMouche, who passed away in December 2002, was a Distinguished Alumnus who wanted to help students from Gregory-Portland High earn an education in engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

· Larry Kruse Memorial Scholarship for language majors which was one of three endowments established by his parents, Dr. Olan Kruse and Lucille Kruse. The other "Kruse" endowments include the Lucille Kruse Scholarship fund for language majors and the Olan Kruse

· The Schmalenbeck Memorial Scholarship fund was established through a bequest from Hildegard Schmalenbeck (right), who taught at Texas A&I for many years.  Her sister, Martha Schmalenbeck of Scottsdale, AZ also contributed to the endowment growing the fund to almost $100,000.

· Kleberg First National Bank established the "Mildred Chiuminatto" scholarship fund for history majors and recently established a Presidential Support fund to aid the university president.

· Alice business owner William Findley established the John Bartlett scholarship endowment for engineering students and the Charles Roberson scholarship endowment for chemistry students as a way of honoring two of his most devoted employees.

· Another Alice businessman, Lucien Flournoy and his wife, Maxine, established the Hearts for Minds scholarship endowment to help students from south Texas earn a degree at Texas A&M-Kingsville.

· In their wills, Frances and Sarah Porter, both graduates of Texas A&I, established the Hugh Porter Memorial Scholarship fund for math majors

· Mrs. J.E. Turner recently established the "J. E. and Evelyn Turner Endowed Scholarship fund to support students attending Texas A&M-Kingsville. J.E. Turner was formerly Dean of Men at Texas A&I and Turner Hall dormitory is named in his honor.

· Distinguished Alumnus Bruce Withers established the Robert Withers Endowed Scholarship fund in honor of his brother.

· Nelda C. Garcia, who taught at the University of Texas (Austin) and Arizona State University, did not attend the university but her cousin Hilda Garcia did! So, in her will, Nelda established the Hilda Garcia Scholarship fund to help upperclass women students majoring in business.

Recently, as a result of the Building on Our Traditions Capital Campaign, the Foundation received donations to establish the following:

· The Dewey Mayhew scholarship for student athletes

· Richard Ritchie Football Coach’s Fund

· SCIF Sables Hunting Scholarship fund

· Stevens and June Herbst Dotterweich Chair support fund.

· George Mitchell-Bruce Withers, Jr. Scholarshp endowment

· Robert Withers Scholarship fund

· George Kain-Valero Energy Corporation Scholarship endowment

· Nick Harrell Scholarship fund

· Wayne and Joyce King Math and Science Scholarship fund

· J. Philip and Jo Ann McCormick Leadership scholarship fund

· Marvin P. Hamilton Scholarship fund

· Marion and George F. Rhodes Scholarship fund

 

University agencies and departments .

· The John Conner Museum benefits from the Caesar Kleberg Natural History endowment, which like the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, benefited from contributions from the Caesar Kleberg Foundation for Wildlife Conservancy.

· The Early Childhood Education Center, which was established through a $1 million endowment established by donations from the King Ranch Family Trust.

· Graduates of what is now known as the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering established one of the first endowments with the Foundation creating the Frank H. Dotterweich Chair in Natural Gas Engineering.
