Dr. Nestor Rodriguez, Assistant Professor

Nestor M. Rodriguez was born in New York, N.Y. He has previous work experience including working in nuclear power in the U.S. Navy. This included being stationed on the USS Augusta – SSN 710, a fast attack submarine. He has been a New York City Police Officer stationed at the 32nd Precinct in East Harlem. Afterwards, he moved to South Florida and attended Florida Atlantic University where he majored in Business Economics. He also attended graduate school at Florida Atlantic University and earned a Master of Science degree in Financial Economics. With an interest in Applied Economics, he attended and completed his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics at Purdue University with specializations in Agribusiness and Finance. His PhD research investigated structural change in U.S. meat demand over time and due to major macroeconomics variables. He spent 2 years at Purdue University in the Department of Agricultural Economics as Visiting Faculty where he taught courses in Agricultural Economics and Price Analysis. He joined the faculty at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2013 as an Assistant Professor in Agribusiness.

Research Interests:
Nestor’s research interests involve studying and applying basic economic principles to empirical data within the realm of applied economics. Primary emphasis is in the areas of Consumer Economics, including consumer demand with strong interests in Agribusiness and Finance. Recent research efforts have involved collaboration with colleagues in examining structural change in consumer demand in the U.S. across a variety of food products.
