Jamie C. Laurenz, Associate Vice President for Research and Academic Support, earned a B. S. degree from South Dakota State University and both his M. S. and Ph. D. in animal science from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Laurenz has served as Assistant Dean of the College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences as well as a department chair. His recent honors include being awarded the Minority Access “Role Models in Biomedical Research” given by the U.S. Department of Health and National Institutes of Health and receiving the Dean’s Excellence Award for the College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences in 2006.

His research interests include stress physiology, immunology and diabetes. His work has been funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Institutes of Health and the National Pork Producer’s Council, among others. He has been published in a variety of refereed publications, including the Journal of Animal Science, the Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances, Comparative
Biochemistry and Physiology
and Immunology Letters.

Dr. Laurenz serves as the Compliance Officer for the University, responsible for implementing System policies and regulations.

Responsibilities of Compliance Officers

General Responsibilities:

Compliance officers are responsible for overseeing the distribution of System Policies and Regulations, the development and distribution of rules to implement System Policies and Regulations and the interpretation or answering of questions about System Policies, Regulations and Rules. The compliance officers are responsible for communicating to employees information concerning policies, regulations and rules. Compliance with policies, regulations and rules of The Texas A&M University System is the responsibility of the CEOs and the appropriate administrators of the component institution.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Review all new or revised policies and regulations of the System.
  2. Determine if new rules or modifications of current rules are recommended.
  3. Distribute policies and regulations through all applicable channels to all affected areas of the institution.
  4. Oversee the development or implementation of rules which include: determining that a rule is needed assigning drafting responsibility for a rule circulating the rule for institutional review and comments implementing a process for institutional approval System review of institutional rules rule publication and distribution
  5. Oversee distribution of approved rules to all appropriate institutional personnel.
  6. Publish rules through institutional distribution channels and appropriate web sites.
  7. Provide training, as appropriate, to present, interpret or explain the rules.
  8. Publicize the name and availability of the institutional compliance officer to all employees in order to respond to questions/comments on policies, regulations, or rules.
  9. Forward questions that cannot be answered locally to the System compliance officer.
  10. Report to the CEO and the System Compliance Officer on a regular basis on progress in developing and distributing policies, regulations and rules.
  11. Make recommendations to System Compliance Officer concerning policy compliance.
