About the Associate Vice President
Thomas Fields came to Texas A&M-Kingsville in 1999. He is chair of the Graduate Council and holds the rank of professor for communication sciences and disorders. In 2006, he was named Faculty Ombudsman for the university and in 2007, he served an administrative internship in the Office of the Provost. He received the Arts and Sciences Teaching Award in 2005, served on the Task Force to re-write the Faculty Constitution and served as the first Faculty Senate President elected under the new constitution.
Prior to joining the university, he owned and operated rehabilitation facilities that offered home health care. His company employed about 350 people in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia and offered residential and hospital facilities with programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology services. His prior academic appointments include stints at Oklahoma State University, the University of Mississippi and Louisiana State University.
He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin, master’s degrees from New Mexico State University and Texas Tech and a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech.
