How did you become interested in your major?

Since I was a kid I was always that little girl with the get rich quick schemes. I used to recycle for money, sell candy to kids in school for double what I paid for it, and I used to sell baked goods to my neighbors. I guess you could say I was a young entrepreneur and I was good at it. I even got so good at making money that my mom and dad would borrow money from me that I had saved and I would charge them interest. But my first taste of the love for my major came early on in my high school career. My sophomore year of high school I took an accounting course and I remember just falling in love with it. From then on I knew that that was the career path I was going to take. I loved crunching numbers, and I loved money. It was the perfect major for me. So then, I took personal and corporate finance last summer and realized the combination of accounting and finance was what I wanted and was what was going to make me happy.

What have you learned about yourself as you've been a student at A&M-Kingsville?

As a student here at A&M Kingsville, I've learned that my capabilities surpass the expectations that I had. I am able to work 2 jobs, take 21 hours, and dedicate myself to my organizations and activities because of my inner drive.

What are your future career plans? How do you plan to use your studies to achieve your future career plans?

My future career plans are to graduate from A&M Kingsville with a Bachelor's in Accounting & Finance with Honors and pursue a Master's in Professional Accountancy. Upon receiving these degrees I want to pass the CPA and CFA exam in Texas and work for one of the Big Four accounting firms and eventually own my own CPA firm. I plan to use my studies to achieve my future career plans by utilizing the skills that I've learned here in college such as my organization skills, my time-management skills, and my writing and communication skills.
