The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation is pleased to announce the receipt of a challenge gift by Thomas and Jeanne Russell in the amount of $150,000 toward the establishment of the Ralph C. Russell Distinguished Professorship at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The Distinguished Professorship is named for Tom’s late father, Ralph C. Russell, Professor Emeritus, who was an Accounting Professor at Texas A&I University for 26 years.

Ralph C. Russell’s imprint is still seen in today’s business world, with many of his former students holding executive positions and receiving numerous accolades for their career achievements.  An educator, mentor and friend, Mr. Russell is remembered as a professor who exemplified qualities of personal and professional integrity. He maintained a dedication in the classroom. Professor Russell knew how to engage students in a rigorous learning process, to compliment a student’s success and provide an honest and thorough feedback. Professor Russell stood for excellence in everything and challenged his students to higher achievement, resulting in payback for his students that has been remarkable.  Mr. Russell is also fondly remembered for his affinity for student welfare and engagement.
A named faculty position is the highest honor bestowed by any university on an outstanding member of the faculty. Gifts toward an endowed position are designed to lift a program to a new standard of excellence and support the academic pursuits and endeavors of the holder of the endowed position.

This lead gift provides a tremendous opportunity to our honored and resilient accounting program and challenges our accounting students to succeed at the highest level.  We need to build on the Russell’s gift, and therefore ask you, his former students and friends, to support Professor Russell’s legacy of dedication and give to the Ralph C. Russell Distinguished Professorship.  This fund will enable the college to recruit and retain the very best faculty and students. Providing the resources needed for students will send a strong message of commitment to the accounting program from both the College of Business Administration and the university.
